We had an amazing opportunity to honor our service members on Sunday. Pacific Lodge partnered with Rotary Club of Woodland Hills to host a bbq for members of Wings Over Wendy’s, a club for military veterans. We enjoyed lots of good food, fun games, and fellowship. Thank you all for coming!
Our first session of the intergenerational art program with ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center has come to an end. The program brought together the boys and senior citizen mentors to share the experience of working on visual arts and creative writing for eight weeks. The workshops culminated in an art exhibition celebrating the participants’ accomplishments. We would like to thank the mentors, the art teacher, and the wonderful staff at ONEgeneration for this amazing opportunity. Here are some of the paintings displayed at the exhibition.
The funnel cakes we made with the Rotary Club of Woodland Hills turned out absolutely delicious! Thanks for helping our boys learn crucial life skills that can be used in their everyday lives.
The 24th Annual Success Is Our Future Awards Dinner took place on May 19th, 2016. It recognized the achievements of probation and foster youth in the areas of Performing Arts, Athletics, and Spoken Word.
Our boys attended the event to support fellow residents of Pacific Lodge and enjoy the success stories of residents from other group homes. The evening included a buffet style dinner, a D.J. and an outstanding Master of Ceremonies. All of the young men and ladies were dressed to impress. The evening started with a prayer and the national anthem was included at the beginning of the ceremony.
The night included poetry, music and success stories from residents of different LA County Group Homes. One of our residents was celebrated with a standing ovation after wooing with crowd with a piano rendition of Mozart. He performed magnificently. Other residents were saluted with scholarships for their high academic achievements, dedication and motivation towards education. We congratulate all the participants and wish them the very best!
We are grateful to our guest speaker Victor Paz for the time and effort he took to share his experiences and knowledge with our boys.
Thanks to Allheart volunteers for a wonderful day of baseball!
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of our interns who completed their Master of Social Work field education at Pacific Lodge this year. Our team included students from University of Southern California and California State University, Northridge. They provided critical support to promote the well-being of PLYS clients and their families. We thank all the interns for their hard work and wish them the very best as they step into their social work career.
Our Bike Program took part in North Valley Caring Services Bike-a-thon and Community Fair on April 16th. The smiles on children’s faces who won bikes were heartwarming. Thanks to our volunteers and the boys for all their hard work!
Volunteers from Temple Aliyah and other organizations came together for a day of service at the Lodge with the goal of making sandwiches for the homeless. We were able to make about 500 sandwiches that were delivered to Lutheran Social Services, Family Rescue Center, Guadalupe Center and LA Family Housing. Thank you very much to everyone who participated!
