Last night we had the pleasure of having Mr. Jordan Burnham come to the Lodge to speak about the world of Mental Health with our boys. Thanks to Active Minds (www.activeminds.org) and the Matthew Silverman Foundation (www.mattsfoundation.org) Jordan came all the way from Washington DC to share his personal story of how depression nearly cost him his life. Jordan captivated our boys with his story and encouraged them to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help seeking.
Today, Jordan travels the country sharing his incredible story of survival, emphasizing that everyone should feel comfortable with seeking help because it’s not a sign of weakness and often leads to a successful recovery. He shares with audiences his ongoing physical and mental health recovery process, and encourages them to create healthier and more supportive communities.
Jordan is a nationally recognized mental health advocate who was one of the “2010 Best of Philly” and received the 2012 Emerging Humanitarian Award winner from the Asomugha Foundation. He has been featured in The Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, and USA Today, and he has appeared on ESPN’s E:60 and Outside the Lines, CNN, Good Morning America, and Dr. Phil. His interview with ESPN became an Emmy-nominated documentary, and he has spoken at the White House and before Congress.
We hope to have Jordan back at the Lodge as soon as possible!

PLYS had its first Spelling Bee! Residents had a great time and we gave out prizes to 1-3 place winners. The winner of Spelling Bee was very happy and excited. He practiced really hard.
One of our residents going for phase 4 focused his project on brotherhood and recognition. He suggested that PLYS reinstated assemblies to recognize residents’ hard work in maintaining sobriety, good behavior and phasing up. On September 6th, 2015 Resident Council and Therapeutic Activities & Enrichment Department held the assembly to acknowledge the residents’ achievements. The boys got an opportunity to showcase their talent as well. We received a lot of positive feedback from the assembly.
Resident Council and the Therapeutic Activities & Enrichment Department put together bingo, donut eating contest and relay race. The boys enjoyed yummy snacks afterwards.
Exotic Euro Cars and brand Junior Ambassador Marc Handsome invited several of our residents for a motivational talk and exploration of the exclusive car selections. Residents were thrilled to see the cars. They were also treated to t-shirts and popcorn.
